Hello! I’m Jen, owner of Jen Peterson Photography. My photography journey started back in 2010 when I attended a friend’s wedding and saw the images that were captured. They were absolutely beautiful! I, unfortunately, had made the mistake of NOT hiring a professional photographer for my wedding day… So now it’s my goal to capture gorgeous wedding photos and to encourage all brides to hire a professional they can trust!
Although I have been shooting since 2010, my defined shooting style and jumping headfirst into weddings didn’t happen until 2017. I have 2nd shot for several amazing wedding photographers all over Northern California, which has been an honor. I shoot weddings independently as well, so I am extremely comfortable working alone, photographing the groom’s details, groom portraits, and groomsmen portraits. I can handle pressure and am always looking for the best ways to serve the clients and the main photographer even when under extreme time crunches. I would love the opportunity to speak with you directly and see about developing a working relationship with you as your second shooter!
My shooting style
My work would be mostly be classified as “Light & Airy”. I try to get the images as close as possible to real life, in-camera, minimizing the time spent on post-processing. When it comes to the wedding day, I am not invasive! I try to stay to the outer perimeter of the ceremony site and only step into the aisle for a few close up’s of the key ceremony events. During receptions, I like to get right into the dancing action for some close-up party dancing shots!

Photography Education Background
I have taken a lot of courses both locally and online throughout the years. But the most recent education that has really transformed my style and business would be the following courses from Katelyn James: Lighting & Locations Course, Posing Course, Consistency Course, Bridal Details Mini Course, Jumpstart to Marketing Course, Business Collection, and am currently enrolled in her All Access program where I get new education content on a monthly basis. I have also taken the Shooting & Editing Course by Amy & Jordan Demos. With the combination of those courses under my hat, I can use one location for many poses with great light and get a good variety! I’m also confident in working with the groom and groomsmen on my own.
